The certified hiking village Altenmarkt is perfect for a hiking vacation with the family because of its many hikes in different levels of difficulty. You can choose from a variety of hikes from cable car hikes to tours to beautiful peaks over 2000 meters high.
Directly at Apartments Monika you will find the entrance to at least five wonderful hiking trails in the hiking paradise in Salzburg. Are you more of a demanding hiker? Then we recommend the hiking area Zauchensee.
For the little ones there are great children’s hiking trails, stamp trails and rustic alpine huts with a petting zoo. The insider tips perfectly tailored to your needs, you will receive daily directly at our reception.
From the Sattelbauer to the Lackenalmen
If you go to Altenmarkt for a hiking vacation, then you should definitely do this one hike: From the Sattelbauer you go in a southerly direction to hiking trail no. 73 and continue on a road into the forest. You now have two options to choose from: the longer, but more comfortable tour via the forest road or a steeper path that leads ambitious hikers uphill. You will cross the street four times before finally arriving at the Lackenalmen.
From there, the tour leads to a saddle, where you will also find the Lacken, which give their name. From the Lacken, a trail leads over a wooded ridge and then crosses the mountain pine fields.
Then simply follow the path further, it is accompanied by a fantastic panorama. After about 2.5 hours of walking time from the Salttelbauer, the goal finally clears – the summit cross in front of an imposing mountain landscape.

The 4 – Mountain Tour in Zauchensee
It includes the four highest peaks around the Seekar area in the hiking region of Zauchensee and is considered one of the most beautiful high-altitude circular hikes for trained, sure-footed and experienced hikers.
The ideal starting point here is the GamskogelhĂĽtte at 1,870 m above sea level (from mid-June to mid-September the 6-seater chairlift Gamskogel I is in operation). From here starts the 4.5 hours long 4-summit tour. In which direction you tackle the hiking tour is a matter of taste.
We recommend starting “for warming up” as the 1st summit in the direction of the Arche. A magnificent view of the Lower and Upper Tauern, the Tennengebirge and the Radstädter Tauern and a dreamlike alpine flora with alpine bush, gentian and much more impresses every nature lover and hiking enthusiast.
The kids paradise Zauchensee
Whether on the alpine pasture, on the meadow or on the summit: the mountain world of Zauchensee is full of animal creatures. And they are all masters in their discipline. At the adventure playground – the Meistercup Arena – right next to the mountain station of the Gamskogelbahn, little hiking enthusiasts can get to know the animals of the Alps such as fox, hare, squirrel, chamois, bees and many more.
Hiking bus – stop in front of your apartment
From the beginning of May until the end of October, the hiking bus takes you to the starting points of various hikes and back again for one euro. Of course you can also use the bus as a convenient means of transport to get to the village center. The hiking bus stop is right in front of the Aparthotel Monika. It could hardly be more comfortable.
